Why AfterShed exists
Our story
AfterShed exists because women whose hair sheds after a big change kept getting the same two answers: a pat on the hand, or a sales pitch. We wanted to give a third one.
What women keep describing
In forum threads and comment sections, the details change. The story doesn't. Months into a GLP-1 medication. A few months after a baby. A year into perimenopause. Off the pill, or through a hard winter. Then the drain fills, the ponytail elastic wraps one extra time, and the part looks wider in the bathroom mirror.
So she does the responsible thing and asks a doctor. The bloodwork comes back. "Your labs are normal. It should settle down. Give it six months." Maybe it will. But nobody explains what is happening, nobody asks what changed, and nobody tells her what she can do while she waits.
A category built on borrowed authority
When women go looking for answers, they find a shelf that has answered every hair question the same way for twenty years: biotin, collagen, hope in a bottle. And next to it, a newer wave of brands that go further: doctors who do not exist, before-and-after photos taken from other people, studies quoted without the parts that did not fit, and countdown timers that reset every time you reload the page.
Women in this situation are not naive. Most have already spent real money on things that did not work. They deserve a brand that shows its work.
What we do differently
We wrote down three rules before we designed anything.
Names
Every person on this site is a real person. If an expert appears here, you will see their name and credentials, and you can look them up. Until we have that, the space stays empty. Every customer story will be labeled honestly, including any where we supplied free product. Founding tester results publish when the first cohort completes 90 days, exactly as it happened.
Percentages
The label is the pitch. Every ingredient with its amount. If we would be uncomfortable printing it, it does not go in.
An end point
AfterShed is a protocol with an end point. Many women stop once shedding has settled and the trigger is behind them. Some take longer. You decide when to stop: pause or cancel Autoship anytime, or simply buy once. Our guarantee runs 90 days: a resting hair takes about three months to shed and be replaced, and that is how long it takes to judge honestly.
Who it's for
Women whose hair has been through something: weight loss, a baby, a hormone shift, coming off the pill, a hard year. It is not for hair that falls out in patches, for scarring, or for a scalp that hurts. That is a dermatologist's job, and we will always say so.
And if you are on a GLP-1: your medication is doing its job. Nothing in the system is designed to change appetite or blood sugar, and there are no hormones and no minoxidil in it. On a GLP-1 or any prescription medication? Show the label to your prescriber or pharmacist before you start.
A note from the founder
[THOMAS: founder-foto. Echte foto, geen stock, geen AI. Liggend of 4:5.]
What I can promise is how we work. Every claim on this site has to survive one question: could we defend it, line by line, to a woman who has already been let down once? If the answer is no, it does not go on the page. [THOMAS: deze alinea controleren of herschrijven in je eigen stem]
