Everything you'd want to ask
Why is my hair shedding so much right now?
Shedding after a big change is usually telogen effluvium: a large share of follicles moves into their resting phase at the same time, and those hairs let go about two to four months later. Common triggers are rapid weight loss, having a baby, perimenopause, coming off the pill, and illness or stress. In a shed like this, follicles usually rest rather than disappear, and shedding often settles on its own once the trigger has passed.
I'm on a GLP-1. Is my medication causing this?
Your medication is doing its job. Shedding on a GLP-1 can come from how fast the weight comes off and from eating less: less protein, iron, zinc and vitamin D coming in while your body reads the change as scarcity. Please don't stop or change your medication because of shedding without talking to your prescriber. Nothing in the system is designed to change appetite or blood sugar, and there are no hormones and no minoxidil in it. On a GLP-1 or any prescription medication? Show the label to your prescriber or pharmacist before you start.
Will this interfere with my GLP-1 medication?
Your medication is doing its job. AfterShed is a daily stamp routine for the scalp, not a supplement. Nothing in the system is designed to change appetite or blood sugar, and there are no hormones and no minoxidil in it. On a GLP-1 or any prescription medication? Show the label to your prescriber or pharmacist before you start.
Is this perimenopause, or something else?
It can be both. Falling and fluctuating estrogen can shorten the growing phase and bring on waves of shedding. These are also the years when female pattern hair loss often shows up: a gradual widening of the part rather than a sudden shed. AfterShed is built for trigger shedding. If your part has been widening steadily for a long time, see a dermatologist, because pattern hair loss has its own treatments.
My hair is falling out after having a baby. Is that normal?
Yes, very. During pregnancy, high estrogen keeps more hairs growing. After birth, estrogen drops and those hairs rest and shed together, usually peaking around four months after delivery. For most women it settles by their child's first birthday on its own. If it is heavier than that or lasts longer, see your doctor and ask about ferritin and thyroid.
I stopped the pill months ago. Why am I shedding now?
Because hair answers late. Stopping or switching hormonal birth control can set off shedding a few months after the change, which is why few people connect the two. It is usually temporary. If it lasts longer than six months, or comes with other symptoms, check in with your doctor.
Can stress or being sick really make my hair fall out?
Yes. A high fever, an infection, surgery, a loss or a long stretch of stress are classic triggers. The shed typically starts two to three months later, often just as life feels normal again.
My bloodwork came back normal. Doesn't that mean nothing is wrong?
Standard reference ranges are set to flag disease, not to describe what hair needs. Ferritin, the marker for your iron stores, can sit inside the normal range. Some dermatologists look for a higher ferritin level when shedding is the concern, though there is no agreed cutoff. It is reasonable to ask your doctor about ferritin, vitamin D, B12, zinc and thyroid function (TSH).
When should I see a doctor instead?
If hair falls out in patches, if your scalp is red, scaly, itchy or painful, if heavy shedding lasts longer than six months, or if it comes with fatigue, unexplained weight changes or irregular periods. AfterShed is made for trigger shedding, not for alopecia areata, scarring hair loss or thyroid disease.
Do I have to stay subscribed?
No. You can pause, skip or cancel Autoship anytime from your account, or simply buy once. AfterShed is a protocol with an end point. A resting hair takes about three months to shed and be replaced, so it makes sense to plan in 90-day blocks. Many women stop once shedding has settled and the trigger is behind them. Some take longer. If a trigger is still ongoing, such as continued weight loss, you can keep the routine going while it lasts.
When will I see a difference?
Honestly, it takes time. Hairs that are already resting will still fall out: a resting hair takes about three months to shed and be replaced. The drain and the brush are what most people track first. Anything you can see in the mirror takes longer, and individual results vary. That is why the guarantee runs 90 days.
Can I use AfterShed alongside minoxidil?
AfterShed contains no minoxidil or hormones. Microneedling can change how much of a topical your scalp absorbs, so ask your prescriber whether and how to combine minoxidil with the daily stamp.
Does the press stamp hurt or pull hair out?
It shouldn't. It has 0.25 mm micro-needles at cosmetic depth and presses straight down rather than rolling, so it is not expected to tangle or pull. Every day, press the stamp along your part. Once a week, switch to a fresh serum vial. You may feel a light prickle; if it stings beyond that, stop for the day. Skip it on a sore or irritated scalp, or on skin that is broken or infected.
Can I use it while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Not for use during pregnancy. While breastfeeding, only with your doctor's go-ahead.
Will this cause facial or body hair?
Not expected: there are no hormones and no minoxidil in the system, the ingredients usually linked to unwanted hair. The serum is a cosmetic.
Should I take iron for my shedding?
Ask your doctor for a ferritin test first. Too much iron is not harmless, so iron should follow your ferritin: if yours is low, your doctor can advise on it. AfterShed does not supply iron or any other nutrient.
I already tried biotin and collagen. Why would this be different?
Those cover one pathway each, and usually not the ones that matter here. Biotin only helps if you are deficient, which is rare, and collagen is one protein without the full amino-acid and mineral picture. Shedding after a big change can involve several shortfalls at once. AfterShed is not another supplement. Protein comes from food, and your doctor can check ferritin, vitamin D, B12, zinc and thyroid function (TSH). Too much iron is not harmless, so iron should follow your ferritin: if yours is low, your doctor can advise on it. The serum vials and the press stamp care for the scalp.
What exactly is in it?
The AfterShed System is two parts: a press stamp with 0.25 mm micro-needles and serum vials. The serum vials contain GHK-Cu (a copper peptide), caffeine, niacinamide, panthenol, hyaluronic acid and allantoin, with no fragrance, alcohol or menthol. Every amount is printed on the label.
